Some years ago, the children of Eastgate Humphrey and Kitty Badger were entered in this tree for reason of interest in the Badger connection. Now available are soldiers' records from the First World War via Library and Archives Canada. Albert's war record is most interesting.

He attested early in the war on December 9, 1914. He states that he is a land surveyor and civil engineer and that he is married. He has spent three years at Royal Military College in Kingston and, hence, comes by officer rank. On enlistment, he is a captain, but gains the rank of major. He served with the 2nd Divisional Cyclists Company. He was mentioned in dispatches (MID) and awarded the Distinguished Service Order (DSO). While initially Lida, his wife, was with her father at Highgate, Ontario, by 1917, while he is in hospital in Folkestone, she is in Folkestone as well.

Note to any researchers of Albert's family:

As with the service records of any First World War Canadian soldier, Albert's file is downloadable in PDF format from Library & Archives Canada. Note that there are at least two pages of other soldiers of similar names that have been interpolated into his file. These interpolations in no way reflect on the merit of his service.
