Sarah Ann Kitchen
ID # 306, (1822-1897)
|Father||Edward Kitchen (1800-1889)|
|Mother||Eunice Culver (1801-1864)|
|Birth||Sarah Ann Kitchen was born on 1 April 1822.|
|Marriage||She married Daniel Howell.|
A certain registration of marriage for Daniel Howell and Sarah Ann Kitchen has not been found, but what follows is probably it:
MS248 reel 4, Vol. 22, page 22.
Talbot District Marriage Register
Extracted from a list of marriages solemnized by W. Rees, minister of the Regular Baptist Church, Simcoe.
Daniel Howell and Sarah Kitchen, both of Dumfries, were married on Febr. 10, 1841. Witnesses Garret Howell and Henry Kitchen.
The Talbot District was mostly comprised of the townships that presently make up Norfolk County. Daniel and Sarah were of Dumfries Township in the Gore District, and probably of present day South Dumfries in Brant County.
|Death||She died on 23 June 1897 at South Dumfries, Brant Co, at age 75.|
|Burial||She was buried at St. George Cemetery, South Dumfries Twp..|
|Note||Death reg. 004809-97 South Dumfries, Brant Co.|
Sarah Ann Howell died June 23, 1897, on the 2nd concession. Age 75. Widow. Baptist. Born Ontario. Physician and informant Dr. E. E. Kitchen.
Dr. Kitchen was Sarah's brother.
Sarah appears to have remained on the farm that was hers and her husband's at least as late as the 1891 census. As per notes under Daniel Howell, this was on the 3rd concession. The above death registration places her death as being on the 2nd concession. Either she was spending her last days with a family member or the concession was incorrectly entered. The 1881 and 1891 censuses place her in her own home and living on her own.
The death registration is no help with her place of birth. If the biography of her father, Edward Kitchen, is correct, as it appears on page 666 of Warner & Beers History of Brant County, then she was almost certainly born near the town of Simcoe.
