Burial Glenwood Cemetery June 13, 1932. Mrs. Marian Greenwald was Fred's daughter. It's interesting that she gave Fred's place of birth as Guelph in Ontario. A Michigan birth registration for Fred has not been found, which is not unusual. A Canadian birth for Fred seems unlikely given that the family appears to have been established in Michigan, and, while unlikely, it's possible that Mrs. Greenwald was correct. The difficulty is that Fred's family was in Walker Township, Kent County, Michigan, in 1880 and, there, his place of birth is given as Michigan. By 1900 Fred was in Flint with his wife Lucy and, again, his place of birth is given as Michigan. In the 1910 and 1920 censuses, his place of birth is given as Michigan. Fred's date of birth was only a few days after the Canadian 1871 census. The family does not appear to be in Canada as of this census, so we must believe that the above death registration in showing his place of birth as Guelph is in error. Certainly, an Ontario birth registration has not been found. |
