Gravemarker Gallery has a photo of the gravestone of John McKenzie Hunt and his wife Christina Carmichael. It's described as being in the Old Area, blocks 84-89, Mountainview Cemetery, Thunder Bay (Fort William). It reads: Hunt John Mc.K. 1855-1926 Christina Carmichael His Wife 1857-1919 George & Cecilia Their Infant Children Birth registrations have not been found for all the children. The first three children, according to their registrations, were born in Derby Township, Grey County. The 1881 census has the family at Owen Sound. For Belle and David, no birth registrations have been found, but they both appear in the 1891 census in Neebing Township, which at the time was designated as being in the Algoma District. Son Archibald's birth registration from 1886 has the family in Neebing. Belle is not found with the family in the 1901 census. She is back with the family, however, in 1911, age 26, and she is shown as being born in June of 1884. And here, we run into an interesting aspect for the travels of the family, for in Belle's marriage registration in Vancouver in 1912, we find that she states that she was born in Manitoba. Belle married Reis Stronach, residing Vancouver, but he was born in Nova Scotia. And in the 1921 census, we find Reis and Belle in Annapolis, Nova Scotia, we they are farming and, again, she shows her place of birth as Manitoba. The 1901 census page for the Hunt family is domiciled Neebing, but Paipoonge is written in as well. The 1911 census shows the family at Paipoonge Township and the district is back to being named the Thunder Bay District. We must guess that the only children for whom we have no dates of birth or death information are George and Cecilia, mentioned above, as they appeared on John and Christina's gravestone. |
