Residence Hamilton. Parents David and Martha Bradford. Zella Church, 27, spinster, Pres. Residence Hamilton. Parents George Church and Harriett Cumming. Witnesses: Daisy Lees and Elizabeth Sycamore, apparently both of Hamilton. On 30 June 1906 at Hamilton, by Rev. J. C. Sycamore. According to the form, the marriage was registered in 1910, although so were marriages that were continguous on the form and other pages both prior to and following the page where the Bradford-Church marriage is recorded. Some are marriages performed by Rev. Sycamore, but not all. It's possible that the 1910 registration dates represent a recopying, but since they are all different 1910 dates, this theory really doesn't work. All we may safely say is that the registration dates the marriage of George and Zella to 1906. This is no help when it comes to an accurate year of birth for George. | Note | The Wesleyan Methodist baptisms, page 737 for the Township of Flamboro, tells that Sarah Rozilla was born to George and Harriet Church at West Flamborough on 18 March, 1875, and that she was baptized in Flamboro (whether East or West not stated) on 14 May, 1876, by George Richardson. This is only at variance by one day with her date of birth as shown on her death registration below. Death reg. 034724-12 Hamilton, Wentworth Co. Sarah Rozilla Bradford died 17 August 1912. Date of birth 19 March 1875. Age 56, born Millgrove. Died City Hospital, housewife. Father George Church, born England, mother Harriet Cummings, born Millgrove. Physician J. E. Davey, informant Geo. Church, 42 Bay St. North. This, contrasted with the registration of Zella's marriage to George Bradford, makes it clear that her proper name was Sarah Rozilla. According to a transcription of Hamilton Cemetery as provided by the Hamilton Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society, Zella was buried with her husband and parents. The inscription reads: Zella Church/wife of/George Bradford/died Aug. 17, 1912/in her 36th year/George Bradford/1872-1932/Harriet Church/1855-1918/George Church/1850-1941. |
