NoteErn Varcoe was a very kind and gentle man. His in-laws were great kidders. The Colemans tell a story about how the Clarks were visiting the Colemans at Oak Street in Galt with Em and Ern Varnoe. It was a hot summer's day. Harry Clark and Ern were washing the car. The living room window was open and Harry knew that his wife Alice was sitting just inside. Suddenly he piped up and said, 'Ern, you can say what you want about me, but watch what you say about my wife!' Alice leaned out the window and, fully realizing that Harry was having everyone on, proceeded to give Ern blazes. Poor Ern was mortified.
