| Note | The 1901 census tells that Harry Clark came to Canada in 1868. The 1911 census says 1870. Both are wrong. Henry Clark, age 5, visitor, is shown in the household of his grandmother, Emma Mathewson, as of the 1871 census. Harry's parents, William and Emma Clark, also appear in the 1871 census. They are located in Teddington. The youngest child with this is Thirza Clark, age 9 months. With a name like Thirza, we can be no question that we have the correct family. Betimes, someone will be enumerated twice in a census, but Henry (Harry) was only enumerated once in 1871 - at his grandmother's. The Clark's are believed to have come to Canada in 1871. Certainly, John and Lavinia Himes did (Lavinia being Emma Mathewson Clark's sister.) We have John and Lavinia on a passenger list. A passenger list showing the Clarks has yet to be found. Harry Clark is said to be a porter in the 1881 census. He is located in Galt, Ontario, with his parents. Death reg. 004143-34 Toronto, York Co. Harry Albert Clark died June 15, 1934, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Toronto. Residence in Toronto, but street illegible. Married. Born England. Date of birth shown only as October. Age 69. Occupation factory inspector. At place of death four weeks. Parents William Clark and Emma Mathewson, both born England. Informant Mrs. E. Varcoe, 132 Gordon Ave., daughter. Burial June 18, 1934, at Park Lawn Cemetery. |
