NoteOur only source for Hendrick/Henry is the Vrooman Family History book of 1949, page 33. Beyond this, there is little certainty. Early Ontario Settlers, A Source Book, by Norman K. Crowder, Genealogical Publishing Co., 1993, provides with several possibilities with Hendrick's surname variously spelled. Probably, the correct spelling of the name was Markle. With this in mind, it's entirely possible that he was in Williamsburgh in what was apparently the Mecklenburg District, later the Johnstown District. Or he may be the Henry Marrical, age 22, who appears with Mrs. Marrical, age 29, and son William Marrical, age 7, in the 1783 victualing list for Lt. Col. Butler's Company in the Corps of Rangers at Niagara. This Henry doesn't identifiably show up later and, in the end, we simply don't even know if he was ever in Upper Canada or if Hendrick, the husband of Maria, served with Butler's Rangers.
