The Flesherton Advance newspaper, edition of March 18, 1936, carries an obituary on the front page. No dates are given, but it places his death in Arkona. It states that he is survived by his widow and daughter Lillian, at home, and son Harold at Glencoe. It says that he was born in Cannington, and that 'over fifty years ago' was married in Queenston to Miss Jennie Vrooman. He studied for the Baptist ministry at Woodstock College and McMaster University. He had charges in Arkona, Flesherton, Kenmore, Harrow, Brantford, Bloomingdale, Michigan, North Carolina, Essex, and Gobles. A note here: William Albert Johnston began life as an Anglican. The family of Jennie's people, that is to say the family of Solomon Secord Vrooman became, at some point, staunch Baptists. William, at some point, converted to being a Baptist, and to such an extent that he became a Baptist minister. |
