| Note | Booklet nbr. 3 of the Annals of the Forty/Loyalist and Pioneer Families of West Lincoln/1783-1833, published by The Grimsby Historical Society in 1952 and reprinted through 1986, on page 66, has a record of the Bridgeman family. This information was supplied to the society by Miss Charlotte Bridgeman of Winona, Ontario. This records that Thomas Bridgeman came to Niagara in 1799 and settled in Grimsby, near Smithville. He was married to Deborah, the daughter of John and Sarah Pettit. They had several children, including Sarah who married Thomas Allen. They were the parents of Caroline. Caroline's death registration in 1923 reports her mother as Eliza. 'Sarah' may be correct, though, to date, we have little to confirm it for Thomas Allen was apparently a widower by 1851. Caroline is usually shown as Carrie in census information. Her full name, per the inscription on her gravestone, is Deborah Caroline Allen. Death reg. 035558-23 Welland County, Welland Caroline Field died at 98 Dorothy St. on Feb. 20, 1923. Age 79, born Smithville on Oct. 9. Resided at place of death for one year. Parents Thos. Allen and Eliza Bridgeman, both born St. Anns. Informant Mrs. Robert Heslip of 98 Dorothy St., Daughter. Burial on 22 February, 1923, at Smithville.
