| Note | The May 18, 1944, issue of the Niagara Falls Gazette tells us that Flying Officer, Arthur Tilton, age 27, of 1063 Fourth Avenue, was killed in action on May 16, 1944. This is on the page marked Canadian News and the story is datelined Niagara Falls, Ontario. It states that he came to Niagara Falls at age of two. He was born in Cornwall, Ontario. The story mentions that he leaves his mother, wife and two sisters. No evidence has been found that Arthur and Josie had children. Arthur's death registration as provided by the RCAF Records Officer reads as follows: 701402 District of Overseas (North Wales) Arthur Andrew Tilton, residence 1063 Fourth Ave., Niagara Falls, Ontario. Canadian, married, born Ontario on January 21, 1917. Age 27, pilot, RCAF. Wife Josie Allen Vrooman, parents Andrew Alexander Tilton and Clara Runions, both of Ontario. Date of death. May 16, 1944. Cause of death: Killed in flying accident. Find-a-Grave provides us with the following information: Fl Off Arthur Andrew Tilton Flying officer, Pilot, RCAF, age 25 Burial Blacon Cemetery, Chester, Cheshire, England, Plot Sec. A, Grave 762. This cemetery is for RAF and Commonwealth burials as well as a number of Polish personnel. Andrew's parents are buried in Fairview Cemetery, Niagara Falls, Ontario. Their stone is pictured on Fairview's website. It reads: Andrew A. Tilton, 1890-1942, and Clara H. Runions, 1895-1968. |
