MS248 reel 5, Vol. 7, pages 205 & 206 Elgin County Marriage Register Extracted from a list of marriages solemnized by David Griffin of the M.E.P. Church in the County of Elgin from the 1st of January to the end of the year (1861). John H. Stover, 21, born and residing Dorchester. Parents Jacob and Ann. Soph. West, 21, born and residing Dumfries. Parents Nicholas and Rebecca. Witness B. Tibbets, Bayham. On December 8, 1861. Elizabeth Hancocks, C.G., has done a transcription of the Elgin County Marriage Registers, 1858-1869, Global Heritage Press, 2005. Her interpretation of the dittos, as they appear on the pages is interesting. She does not interpret them as being a ditto of the above line, but rather the left column. Typically, with the usual use of dittos, John Hiram Stover was then born in Wesminster, but residing in Dorchester, and Sophia was born in Bayham, but residing in Dumfries. There are problems with Ms. Hancocks' interpretation, but she is probably correct. |
