Note | Documentation for Ann's birth year is based on her age as shown in various censuses and her death registration. 1818 is shown here as an approximation. The years of birth calculated actually range from 1817 to 1821 with one being much later. Her place of birth is shown as Wainfleet Township with some confidence for Adam gained ownership of lot 40 on the 5th concession on 4 July 1815. On 18 February, 1817, he applied to the Crown to be granted lot 41 as well, for he said that much of lot 40 was unimprovable. He stated in his letter that he was settled on lot 40. He was unsuccessful in his application, for in 1818 lot 41 was granted to Samuel Street. In later years, Wainfleet became a part of Welland County. Son Peter Stover's death registration places the births of his parents in Welland County. In Ann's case, this will almost certainly be Wainfleet. Examining other Vrooman family members for possibilities, it is difficult to see Ann as being other than the daughter of Adam and Elizabeth. While the Jackson County biography of Albert and Charlotte Haner does not mention Ann's married name, it does identify a sister Ann who is living in Canada as of 1889 when the biography was written, or at least published. Ann was apparently resident in Malahide Township, Elgin County, when she married in 1837. John 'Froman', who we must believe to be her brother, was a witness. Jacob Stover was resident in Dorchester at the time and apparently farming there. Certainly, by 1851, Ann and Jacob are in South Dorchester, Elgin County. We find Jacob and Ann in South Dorchester until the 1871 census, but by 1881 they are in Caradoc Township in Middlesex County. Death reg. 017254-04 Caradoc Twp., Middlesex County Ann Stover died Dec 31, 1904, age 85. Resident at lot 13, con 2. Widow. Born Caradoc (?). Baptist. Informant George Stover. More research is needed, but Ann and Jacob appear to be buried in Cook's United Church Cemetery in Caradoc Township. |
