NoteShowing Maud's name as Maud Vermicella Jane Ellis may, at first glance, seem like stretching a point, but consider the following:

Maud Ellis, age 8, appears in the 1891 census in West Garafraxa with her family. She also appears as Maud in the 1901 census, West Garafraxa, age 18, and her date of birth is given as 18 May 1882. Then on June 14, 1905, in West Garafraxa, Vermicilla Jane Ellis married William Knight Dick. Her age at the time is given as 23. She appears as Vermicella Dick in the 1911 and 1921 censuses at Fergus. She died in 1928 and her date of birth is given on her death registration as 18 May 1882, the same as Maud. There is no evidence that Maud had a twin for no Ellis child born in approximately 1882 appears in the 1891 or 1901 censuses. Vermicella's death registration clearly shows her parents as Elam Ellis and Nettie Smith. No birth registration has been found for Vermicella or Maud or Jane, but we must believe the wearer of these names to be one and the same person.

Vermicella and William are buried in Belsyde Cemetery in Fergus.
