Note | Information for the dates of Gilbert's birth and death are taken from a transcription of the family stone at Copetown Cemetery. His first wife Rebecca is buried with him. Also with him is his second wife Elizabeth. She was born 27 July 1804 and died 27 September 1883. (No direct information for Elizabeth's maiden name has been found by this researcher.) The Hamilton Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society provides a transcription of the family's stone in Copetown Cemetery and it reads as follows: Gilbert C. Field/born Aug. 9 1807/died April 26, 1881. (Side 2) Elizabeth/wife of /Gilbert C. Field/born July 27, 1804/died Sept. 27, 1883 (Side 3) Rebecca/ wife of/Gilbert F. Field/born 9th, Oct. 1809/died 28th Oct. 1836 There does appear to be a separate stone for Rebecca in Copetown Cemetery. It reads: In memory of/Rebecca Field/wife of Gilbert/Field/who/died October 28, 1836/aged 27 years and 17 days. It seems likely that Rebecca is actually buried in the grave marked with her own stone and commemorated on her husband's stone as well. |
