Archie was known all his life as 'Art'. He began his working life with the CNR freight office in Galt at the station on Concession Street. He worked with the CNR in Stratford and Windsor and then left the railway and went to work for General Motors at Pontiac. He was there when the stock market crashed in 1929. He was out of work for much of the depression, but finally was employed as book keeper at Canada Machinery in Galt where he worked for the rest of his life.
