Note | The spelling of Pamela's name varies with different records. Something like Pamelia, or Pomelia, may be closer to correct. In 1907 Pamelia and William with daughter Edna went to Detroit where they stayed until at least the 1910 census. William's death registration indicates that they were in Orangeville from around 1913. There is a border crossing record for William in 1907 and for Pamelia and Edna later in the year. An error has occured, for they are both named Edna, however it is made clear that Pamelia's father and Edna's grandfather is Elam Vrooman of Fergus. When Pamela's mother, Caroline Main Vrooman, died in 1932, her obituary indicated that her daughter, Mrs. W.T. Tilt, resided in Guelph. In 1932, Sabina Vrooman Bookless, daughter of Admiral Nelson Vrooman of Harrisburg, made her will. Sabina, at that time, resided in Guelph. Sabina died in 1934 and as was frequently done a page was made up listing the beneficiaries and their addresses and this was appended with other legal and probate papers to Sabina's will. On this page, two bequests mentioned are for Edna Smith of 252 Woolwich Street in Guelph and Millie Tilt at the same address. We know from Edna's birth registration that Pamela, or Pamelia, went by Milly or Millie. Millie was likely living with her daughter at this time. No date of death or place of burial has yet been found for Millie. This is being researched. One other point of interest may be noted. Such information as we have indicates that Admiral Nelson Vrooman was the son of Rachel Vrooman. The 1949 Vrooman Family book states that his father's name was Smith and that Nelson took the name of Vrooman. We know that Nelson Vrooman purchased land from Arents Vrooman, the grandfather of Millie Vrooman Tilt. It is evident that a family connection was maintained at least until the death of Sabina Vrooman Bookless. Pamela had a brother named Nelson. It seems likely that the Vroomans of Harrisburg and the Vroomans of Garafraxa had a close relationship. |
