NoteBirth years for Thomas, Rosina and the earlier children are calculated from the 1851 census. This was taken in January of 1852 and the age question was: What is your age as of your next birthday? Accuracy frequently suffered and so the ages are approximate.

One researcher states that Thomas had a first wife, one prior to Rosina. Evidence for this has yet to be found.

We find Thomas Randall again with his family in the 1871 census. His daughter Sarah is not present, for she married in 1866. George is also not present. Caroline, his daughter by his second wife Eva is age 4. Emma is shown as Emily.

Death reg. 008460-73 Woolwich Twp., Waterloo Co. 10 January 1873, Thomas Randall, age 62, farmer, born England. Informant Jacob Frey, farmer, Woolwich (likely his son-in-law). Presbyterian.

Jacob Frey, in the above death registration, identifies Thomas Randall as a Presbyterian. The 1871 census shows him as being Church of England as he was shown in Woolwich Township in the 1851 census.

At least some of the above information was written prior to the availability of the 1861 census. Thomas appears therein as a widower. He is shown as age 50 and, apparently, as Church of England. He is a laborer for Peter Martin, a farmer and Mennonite. None of Thomas' children appear to be with him.

His daughter Emily, age 6, is shown as a Lutheran and she appears with the family of John Weber. Once her father as remarried, she is back with him per the 1871 census as noted above. The other children in the 1861 census have yet to be sought.
