John Cook was born on 14 November 1798 in Draycott, Wilne Parish, Derbyshire, England. He was the son of Thomas Cook and Ann Marley. He married Mary Hudson, daughter of Samuel Hudson and Mary Watts, on 15 April 1818 in Castle Donnington, Leicestershire, England. He died in 1879 in Pleasant Grove, Utah County, Utah. He was buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Pleasant Grove, Utah County, Utah.
