Thomas Bartlett Kenney1
ID# 4534, (c 1845-c 1922)
Thomas Bartlett Kenney was born about 1845 in Co Wexford, IrelandG.2,1 He was the son of Patrick Kenney and Mary O'Neill.3 He immigrated to South Crosby Twp, Leeds & Grenville County, Ontario, with his parents Patrick Kenney and Mary O'Neill about 1849.1 He married Eleanor Donahue on 22 January 1877 in Brewer's Mills, Frontenac County, Ontario.1,4
Thomas worked as a boatman on the Rideau Canal for several years2. After his marriage, he and Ellen ran a small store and post office near the Jones Falls lock station. When this building burned in April 1888, they built the Hotel Kenney.5 He died about 1922.1
Research Note: Thomas' birth year is questionable. Hub of the Rideau gives his birth year as 1845. The 1871 census gives his age as 23 and his brother Daniel's age as 21. This would make their birth years 1848 and 1850 respectively. However, Daniel is known to have been born in Oct 18486, so I have chosen to use the 1845 date for Thomas.
