     John Hamilton was born in 1797 in Ardclinis, Co Antrim, IrelandG.1,2 He married Rose McCarney in Co Antrim, IrelandG.3 He and Rose McCarney and their 8 children immigrated to Ontario in 1847.4 He wrote his will on 21 July 1866 in Newboro, Leeds County, Ontario.5 He died on 22 August 1871 in Bedford Twp, Frontenac County, Ontario.6,7 He was buried on 24 August 1871 in St Edward's Cemetery, Bedford Twp, Frontenac County, OntarioG.6,8

Research Note: DNA evidence indicates that John Hamilton is a descendant of the Hamiltons of Mylneholme in the parish of Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, Scotland. As described on pages 607-8 in the 1933 book A History of the House of Hamilton by George Hamilton, the earliest proven ancestor of this line is James Hamilton who married Elizabeth Williamson about 1650.9
