Mary Wilson died February 14th, 1873, age 14 years. Farmer's daughter. Born North Dumfries. Presbyterian Church of Scotland. Cause of death fever, 5 days. Physician and informant Dr. S. Richardson, Galt. Mary's date of death agrees with the same as it appears on the family gravestone in Cedar Creek Cemetery. The cemetery's gravestones have been transcribed by the Waterloo branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society, Kitchener. Norma Huber has transcribed funeral cards for Waterloo County, though many of them cover both North Dumfries and Galt. She has recorded Mary's funeral card and this appears on page 52 of her work, Funeral Notice Cards of Waterloo County, from 1851 to 1980, The Waterloo branch of the OGS, 2001. It reads as follows: 72. Died,/ This morning, (Friday, 14th Feby.) at Cedar Creek,/ Mary,/ Daughter of James and Mary Jane Wilson,/ Aged 14 Years 5 Months and 14 Days.// Funeral,/ Tomorrow, (Saturday, 15th February, 1873) at/ 3 o'clock, p.m., from her Father's Residence/ Lot 25, 10th Con., to the Cedar Creek/ Burying Ground./ Dumfries, Feb.14th, 1873. Mary's age as shown on her gravestone as of her date of death, 14 years, 5 months, and 14 days, actually calculates to a date of birth as being August 31. We show her date of birth as being per the records of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. |
