Ann Ferrier

Rev. Smellie's Melville Church in Fergus was Presbyterian.

By 1855, an old Wellington District register was still being used, but this was now Wellington County.

These registrations do not necessarily tell us where a marriage was performed, many being held at the home of the bride's family home. At a guess, however, the marriage was probably held at the manse at Fergus, if for no other reason than one of the witnesses, John Smellie, was evidently one of the clergyman's family members. Also, the witness James Ferrier Sen'r was almost certainly the bride's father. Anne Ferrier, so shown in the 1851 census, was with two James Ferriers in the household - her father and her brother.
