On Sept. 23, 1869, at the Daley House, Ingersoll, by John Learoyd, minister.

By license.

Ingersoll straddled the township line between North Oxford and West Oxford. Which side of the line the Daley House was on is unknown. However, still, at this time, marriage registrations were being returned to the county registrar and not that of the township. Ingersoll later had its own registrar.

It was probably the clergyman who may have returned the registration to the registrar that caused some confusion, for the registrar entered the groom's name as Aaron Main Beverly and his parents as Daniel and Mary Beverley. Their names are shown here as Main.

As an added wrinkle, it may be that the clergyman erred in recording the name of the father of the groom as Daniel. Or it may be that when he returned the registration to the county clerk his handwriting was problematic. Going over ealier census information, however, it is reasonable to say that Aaron Main's father's given name was David.

At the time of David Main's passing in 1899 at the age of 84, the Beverly Township clerk was Wallace McDonald. A study of McDonald's handwriting is a study all in itself, and it might be fair to attempt to translate the given name on this document as Daniel. With minimal squinting, however, we may say that the given name is written as David.
