| Note | The gravestone in Clinton Public Cemetery shows Jane's maiden name to be Greig, not Craig. It appears as Greig in the transcription of Clinton Public Cemetery as done by the Huron County branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society, and this agrees with the photograph of the gravestone as provided by Find-a-Grave. Her maiden name of Craig has been entered here, in part because this is how her name appears on her 1840 marriage registration in Toronto. This document's handwriting is blotchy, but, no question, her name is presented as Craig. She and Stephen also appear in the 1851 census in Chinguacousy Township of Peel County and in their household appears a couple who we must believe to be Jane's parents. Their names are William and Hannah Craig, ages 76 and 68 respectively. Also present with the Craig parents is Robert Craig, age 34. Where in either death or marriage registrations of the Monk children maiden names are given, Jane's maiden name is consistently shown as Craig. Of course it's entirely possible that there is a fuller story. Death reg. 007636-86 Hullett Twp., Huron Co. Jane Monk died 21 October, 1886, age 66, farmer's widow. Born Ireland. Methodist.
