Helen Penman

ID # 9614, (1822-1903)
BirthHelen Penman was born in 1822 at Auchterderan, Fife, Scotland.
MarriageShe married William Gillespie on 11 December 1846 at Kinghorn, Fife, Scotland.
DeathShe died on 7 March 1903 at Seaforth, Huron County, Ontario.
NoteWe must believe that Helen Penman Gillespie was recorded twice in the 1881 census. Helen Gillespie, age 59, with husband William and son Joseph is recorded in McKillop Township in daughter Catherine McMillan's household. Since her husband and youngest son are present, this was probably, at the time, Helen's residence. We may note that Catherine, at the time of the census had an infant daughter, Mary, born in May of the previous year. Looking at marginal endorsements, it does appear that Helen was recorded in McKillop on April 7th.

Ellen Penman, age 58, so shown, is also recorded in Tuckersmith Township with daughter Agnes Monk. Marginal endorsements indicate that this recording was done on April 12. Agnes had with her a child age 8 months, born in July the previous year.

That Helen/Ellen was recorded twice is not unheard of.
