This in turn appears under a list of baptisms performed by Rev. William Sampson, minister of St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Grimsby, 1817-1822. 23 August 1818 Abraham, son of John and Mary Oakley, of Grimsby. Should there by any doubt that Abraham is the son of John Oakley, the following appears in Rev. Donald McKenzie's Volume 1, Death Notices from the Christian Guardian 1836-1850, Global Heritage Press, Milton (now Ottawa), 2011, on page 239. It reads: Oakley, Dr. Abraham Howard, died at the residence of his father, Rev. John Oakley, Bronte, Trafalgar Township, March 7, 1842, in his 24th year. The above appeared in the Christian Guardian's edition of May 11, 1842, page 115. By the way, this death notice appears immediately above the death notice for Abraham's mother Mary, who died the year before. See notes for Mary Henry Oakley. A place or places of burial for the Oakleys have yet to be found. |
