The 1861 Canada West census shows Jessie Patton as a minister in what was known as the Christian Church. He was age 36 as of his next birthday and located in Pickering Township. His place of birth is shown as New Brunswick. The return of the marriage registration by Jessie Patton locates him in Brougham, which is a village in Pickering Township. Hitherto, Pickering Township was in what was known as Ontario County, though Ontario County, as such, is no more. It is now a part of the Durham Region. The Durham branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society provides a transcription of Brougham Pioneer Christian, Early Christian Church Cemetery. This is now known as the Brougham United Church Cemetery. This transcription shows him to be buried alone. His stone shows him as Elder J. Tatton. His date of death was 26 September, 1875, aged 50 yrs., 3 months, and 21 days. This calculates to a date of birth as 7 February, 1825.

So, Patton or Tatton? The problem? There are other names in this cemetery transcribed as Tatton. Your researcher is guessing that Patton is correct, based on some County Marriage Registers from the 1860s. I might well be wrong.
