York County Marriage Register, 1858-1862

Extracted from a list of marriages solemnized by John Durrand, a minister of the Congregationalists, for the year ending 31st December, A.D. 1859, Stouffville

Eli Wismer, 28, born Markham, residing Stouffville. Parents David and Mary.
Matilda Camphausen, 22, born Cologne, Germany, residing Markham. Parents Edward and Antoinette.
Witness William Einstein of Hamilton.
On March 8, 1859.

Matilda's maiden name is not as spelled by Fretz, but it is as spelled on her death registration. Add to that, while the spelling of her maiden name isn't entirely legible on the above marriage registration, Camphausen will be close to what was intended.

County marriage registrations from this era do not typically show the exact place of marriage, but, probably, it was held in Stouffville.
