Informant William Sudden North Dumfries. Informant William Sudden, North Dumfries. Filed on November 20th, 1882. The Waterloo branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society has a transcription of this stone and they read that the date of death is 18 March, 1882. The transcription of this stone was done in 1986 by Norma Huber. She was very meticulous in her work, sometimes doing gravestone rubbings. Still, while the North Dumfries registrar's handwriting is dubious on one or two points, clearly enough the death date is shown as November of 1882, only the number 18 being a bit unclear. That the report of death was done two days later seems clear enough. Also, while further wear of the stone between 1986 and recent times undoubtedly happened, the photo of the gravestone as it appears on Find-a-Grave is almost a total blank. For the present, William's date of death is recorded her per his death registration. William is buried in what is presently Section 4 of Mountview Cemetery, Cambridge (Galt). When William died in 1882, however, the cemetery was still named the Galt Cemetery. It was not renamed Mountview until 1886. |
