Note | When James married Ida in 1866, he showed his place of residence as Inneskillen. The only Inneskillen found in Ontario is that of Inneskillen Township in Lambton County. James was a doctor and there was no doubt a period of time where he served in some place or places as an intern, so Innesville in Lambton is entirely possible. When James married Sarah Wilkinson his marriage registration placed his place of birth in Durham County - though a county named Durham as such didn't apparently exist in 1840, the year of his birth. Wikipedia has a backgrounder for James. This includes a rather more precise place of birth as well as something of his student and political history. James' place of birth is shown here rather more generally as the Newcastle District. This covered the counties that were later known as Durham, Northumberland, and Peterborough. Again, for more specific information do refer to Wikipedia. It could all be mentioned here, but Wikipedia does make a nice job of it. Note that in the death registration shown below, James' place of birth is shown as Scotland by the director of the Guelph Sanitarium (Homewood). This is incorrect. James was born in Upper Canada. Upper Canada did not become Canada West until February of 1841. Death reg. 028257-03 City of Guelph, Wellington Co. James McLaughlin died Aug 9, 1903, age 66. Residence Guelph Sanitarium. Married. Occupation physician. Born Scotland(?). Presbyterian. Physcian and informant A. T. Hobbs. |
