NotePage 130 of Beers 1906 Lambton County Biographical Record lists the children of George Stewart and Jean Gibb. The eldest was Margaret (Maggie) and the biographer tells that she married Milton Day and that they'd settled in Cleveland, Ohio, and that they had one son, George.

Margaret is still with her parents in Moore Township at the time of the 1881 census. Later that year, in December, she married Milton Day in Moore Township and they were still resident there as of the 1891 census. There, Milton is shown as a book keeper in a planing mill.

The 1900 census in Cleveland, Ohio, shows Milton and Margaret there with son George. It tells that they came to the U.S. in 1893.

Some effort has been made to find Milton Day in Canada prior to his marriage to Margaret. The 1871 census shows a likely candidate with a Milton day, age 22, a lumberman, probably boarding in the home of David Canfield in Gosfield Township of Essex County. Margaret's father, George Stewart, was in the lumber business and so Milton Day of Gosfield in 1871 is a possibility...until it is found that Milton was with his parents in Des Moines, Iowa, as of the U.S. 1860 census. Milton's marriage registration makes it quite clear that D. P. W. Day and Alice were indeed his parents. The parents and Milton were all born in Canada. Later Day children were born in Iowa.

This does not preclude Milton being in Canada in 1871. It's probable that Milton in Gosfield is indeed the same as Milton in Des Moines in 1860, but not certain.

Milton is with his wife and son as of the 1920 U.S. census and a death index (see notes for Milton) tells that he died later that year.

Margaret died on 8 December, 1845. See database:
