Manitoba Vital Statistics has available online indexing for Manitoba deaths prior to the past 70 years. Their index for Capel Tilt (so named) dates his death to 18 January, 1938, at age 66, The registration number is 1938,004180 Find-a-Grave shows both Isaac and Luzetta as being buried in Saint Marys Cemetery in Winnipeg. Some Winnipeg Directory notes for the Isaac Capel Tilts, senior and junior: Sr seems rather to have been known as Isaac Tilt Jr seems rather to have been known as Capel Tilt Henderson's Wpg directories have been downloaded from Internet Archive (archive.org) Downloads include 1883 1898 1899 1900 1902-02 1903 1904 1905 Two of the directories are tatterdemalion (1900 and 1905), to such a degree that there are no title pages and so we must take the Archives word for it that they are the years they are said to be. The directories are in PDF format. The name Tilt does not always show up on an OCR search for reason of the surname being wedged in the fold between pages. This is not a hindrance for the directories have sections wherein the names are listed alphabetically and, with this, the name Tilt can be found. The name Tilt has not been found in the 1883, 1898, or 1899 directories. Page 869 (image 461) of the 1900 Winnipeg Directory) shows Isaac C. Tilt, printer with Judd-Moore Printing Co., residence 133 King (Street). We must believe this to be Isaac Capel Tilt Senior for the Dumfries Reformer notice of his marriage shows him to be the associate editor of the Listowel Banner at Listowel, Perth County, Ontario. He also appears in the Winnipeg directory edition of 1901-02 on page 212 (image 204) where he is shown as Isaac 'Capeltilt', printer, at 220 Main. Isaac Capel Tilt Junior married Luzetta Walker at Toronto in 1898. He is shown as being born in Listowel, but residing in Toronto at the time. Capel Tilt does not appear in the 1900 edition of the Henderson Winnipeg directory, but he does appear in the 1901-1902 edition of the directory. He is at 131 Donald Street and shown as a manager. Capel Tilt appears on page 597 (image 623) of the 1903 directory and is shown as Tilt, Capel, manager, Jas. Carruthers & Co., home 198 Donald. Capel appears as Capel 'Talt' on page 781 (image 797) of the 1904 directory. He is shown as working at the Grain Exchange and his home is at 62 Hargrave. Of minor interest is that page 792 shows him as residing 198 Donald, his apparently old address. It seems safe to say that this is Isaac Capel Tilt Jr. Beyond this, the Manitoba Historical Society has a brief history of Capel Tilt (Junior). This provides not only a backgrounder but a photograph of Capel. He was a successful dealer in grain. Beyond the above, the website for Old Fulton New York Post Cards carries a marvelous array of pages from, mostly, U.S. newspapers. A search for Capel Tilt shows a few, obviously syndicated, death notices for Capel Tilt of Winnipeg, in1938. There are also one or two stories related to his business accomplishments. |
