Marriage | She married John Brox, son of Louis Brox and Caroline Randall, on 28 July 1928 at Elmwood, Grey County. Mrge reg. 012660-28 Elmwood, Grey Co. John Brox, 25, bachelor, tire worker, Mennonite. Born Waterloo Township, Waterloo Co. Residing 43 Bingeman Street, Kitchener, Waterloo Co. Parents Louis Brox and Caroline Randall. Mae Adeline Oppertshauer, 20, spinster, Lutheran. Born New Hamburg, Ontario. Residing 43 Bingeman Street, Kitchener, Waterloo Co. Parents Henry Oppertshauer and Elizabeth Schaeffer. On 28 July, 1928, at Elmwood, Bruce Co., by Rev. F. L. Howald, Evangelical Lutheran. Elmwood straddles the county line between Brant Township of Bruce County and Bentinck Township of Grey County. The registration states that the intended place of marriage was Elmwood in Bruce County. The information entered on the form by the clergyman, however, places the marriage in Elmwood in Grey County, which is shown here. The bride's surname is not well written on the form. The groom's place of birth is shown as Waterloo Township, but his birth registration shows his place of birth to be Woolwich Township. Certainly, the Brox family resided in Woolwich at the time of his birth. |
Death | She died in 1988. |
Burial | She was buried at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Sec. C., Kitchener. |
Note | Birth reg. 050494-08 New Hamburg, Waterloo Co. May Adeline Oppertshauser born May 12, 1908. Parents Hy. S. Oppertshauser, laborer, and Elisabeth Schafer. Physician J. Marty. Informant Hy. Oppertshauser, New Hamburg. Rather uncommonly, the above birth registration received a rubber stamp to the effect that a death record was on file. Information is written in by hand. The year given almost looks like 1998, but when the transcription of St. Peter's Luther Cemetery is viewed and the year of her death given as 1988, it becomes apparent that the handwriting filling in the stamped form obviously intends 1988 as the year of her death. The spelling of Mae, or May's, surname is open to different interpretations, mostly due to the handwriting on different documents. The Waterloo branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society, however, in its transcription of St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, transcribes her name as it appears on her gravestone as Oppertshauser, so that is shown here. |
