This refers to the edition of Feb. 22, 1848, page 35, and tells that Orange House of Ancaster married Mary Files of Brantford on the 11th instant. The clergyman was Rev. G. Lawrence. The location of the marriage is not stated. A further record has yet to be found. Rev. Lawrence was a minister of the Episcopal Methodist Church. Records of his marriages do not appear to be listed for at least the Gore District. |

| Note | The 1851 agricultural census of Ancaster shows Orange House to be located on lot 33 of the 3rd concession. As well, in 1994, the Hamilton branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society published an index to the 1859 Surtees map of Ancaster and this also shows Orange as residing on the south half of this same lot. The original patent holder, dating back to 1796, on this entire 200 acre township lot was Arent Bradt. The entries are not on all points clear, but, essentially, shows a family interest in this property (John P. House) from 1835. Orange Lawrence House had an interest from 1839. Orange evidently made a will, which the AI makes note of. It was apparently written in 1871 but probated in 1880. Death reg. 018435-80 Ancaster Twp., Wentworth Co. Orange House died May 30th, 1880. Age 60 yrs. Farmer. Born Ontario, Canada. Canada Methodist. Physician and informant Dr. H. Orton, Ancaster. The above death registration is faded and on some points, mainly related to Orange's death, almost unreadable. For a brief obituary, see page 166 of Rev. Donald McKenzie's Vol. 7, Obituaries from Ontario's Christian Guardian, 1873-1880, Global Heritage Press, 2011, Milton (now Ottawa). This tells that Orange was born on June 15, 1819, in Clinton Township, which was in the Niagara District (now in Lincoln County). He is said to have come to Ancaster at a 'young age' and later married Miss File. That the House family settled in Clinton Township is almost certainly correct. Vol. 5 of The Annals of the Forty discusses the House family at some length beginning on page 52, although Orange himself is not mentioned. |
