| Note | Records for Maggie, or Margaret, or Margarite, present us with some difficulty. We do not have a birth registration for Maggie, yet she appears with her mother in Dundas at the time of the 1881 census. There, she is shown as Magge M. Coleman, age 9. The informant for her mother's death was William Dunn and Maggie was with William and Margaret Dunn at the time of the 1891 census. Margaret was evidently an aunt of Maggie's via the Shannons. We next find Maggie marrying in Detroit in 1896. Since her uncle Franklin Coleman was in Detroit at that time it is possible that she was staying with him when she met and married William Teskey. By the time of the 1900 census Margaret and William are in St. Louis, Missouri. Margaret and William Teskey are together in St. Louis at the time of the 1910 census and with them are children Vera and Warren. In 1920, Margarite M. Keith is shown with William F. Keith and, again, children Vera and Warren Teskey are with them. They are shown as step children to William Keith. What clouds the issue is that Margaret died on February 28, 1924, as the result of an automobile accident. She is shown as Margaret Teskey and not as Margaret Keith. Her address is shown as 5707 McPherson, St. Louisa, and the informant was Joe Tapscott of the same address. He was apparently the husband of Vera Teskey. Then on November 23, 1935, William Teskey died. His address is shown as 4432 Washington Blvd., St. Louis. The informant was Warren Teskey of the same address. The relationship of Margaret to William Keith remains unclear. With regard to Margaret's death registration, there is one confusing note. Joe Tapscott reports her father's name as Frank Coleman. He shows her mother's name correctly as Keziah Shannon. It seems reasonable that Joe was to some degree aware of Frank as a member of Margaret's family, but unaware that he was her uncle. |
