Informant Mr. Harry Filsinger, Goderich, Ont., brother. Burial Feb. 10, 1927, at Woodland Cemetery. George's marriage registration places his birth in Port Elgin; his death registration places it in Peel Township. Port Elgin is in Bruce County, on the Lake Huron shore. Peel Township is in Wellington County in central Ontario. A birth registration has not been found. That George was born in Peel Township of Wellington County has at least some support, however. The 1881 census shows Andrew Filsinger, age 35, farmer, Lutheran, born Germany, on page 10 of Section 2, Peel Township. (The family name has been indexed as Tilsinger.) Present is Andrew's wife Catherine, age 25 and born Ontario, as well as sons Conrad, age 7, and George, age 4. By 1891, the family is in Port Elgin. This enumeration for the family straddles pages 30 and 31. Again, they only show two sons, Conrad and George, ages 17 and 14 respectively. (A letter appears to have been written for the enumeration district. This is quite illegible.) The family, minus Conrad, is still in Port Elgin as of the 1901 census. George's marriage registration places his residence in Sarnia. This is in January of 1906 and we have no confirmation of this. By the 1911 census, however, George and his wife Annie are with George's parents in Berlin (now Kitchener). George and Annie are in Kitchener as of the 1921 census and have two sons with them. |
