MS248 reel 11, Vol. 44, page 146 Norfolk County Marriage Register Extracted from a list of marriages solemnized by Matthias Holtby, (Lynedoch, C.W.) a minister of the Wesleyan Methodist Church, for the year ending 30th day of December, A.D. 1866 Lewis Westover, 27, born County of Elgin, Canada. Residing Walsingham. Harmer and Elsie Westover. Annie Wiggins, 19, born Burford, Canada. Residing Walsingham. Parents Robt and Martha Wiggins. Witnesses Margt Holtby and Mrs. Holtby, both of Walsingham. On March 22, 1866, by special license. The names of Lewis' parents as shown, Harmer and Elsie, are poorly written. An examination of the district marriage registrations, however, show that their names were Harman and Eliza. The marriage register tells that Harman Westover and Eliza Boughner were married in 1837 in the London District. They resided in Malahide Township which was later in Elgin County. Lynedoch was in Charlotteville Township of Norfolk County. This does not mean that the marriage was in Charlotteville, but, considering that the clergyman's family members were witnesses, this was probably where the marriage was held. County marriages are not typically specific as to the place of marriage. |
