NoteThe writing on the 1901 census is questionable, but it appears to say that he is a hotel manager. This squares with family stories that Frank Church was the owner and operator of the Central Hotel in Preston at one time. Vera Coleman used to tell that when Ida Davidson would come back for a visit from Indiana he would throw a family dinner and the whole family would attend. She said that they were great fun.

Frank and Emma are living in her parents home. The household includes her parents, Peter and Lena, and siblings Maud, Ella, Edward and Frank. It's interesting to note that living next door to the Bleilers is an Andrew Davey and his wife Harriet, with son Andrew and daughter Jesse. Frank's mother's maiden name was Davey. Andrew is said to have been born in England in 1834. It's possible that he is a brother of Frank's mother, Sarah Davey Church. This is only speculation and won't likely be proven. Andrew is a grocer and said to have come to Canada in 1852.

The marriage notices for Frank and Emma appear to show her name as she was, perhaps, informally known. Checking out her birth registration, 037055-82, it seems that her name was properly Amelia Jacobina Bleiler. Her parents are said to be Peter Bleiler, butcher, and Jacobina Andrich. The doctor was Byron Crandall. The family was, at the time of Emma's birth, living in Clifford, Ontario.

Frank's birth registration, 026211-72, shows his name as Frank (as opposed to Francis). His father's name is given as Wm. Church and his mother's as Sarah Davie. William is said to be a farmer. Their place of residence is Ancaster Township in Wentworth County. Since the family is in Dunwich Township in Elgin County at the time of the 1881 census, the move will have been made between 1872 and 1881. A 1901 census transcribes Frank's birthdate as July 17. A careful checking of the enumerator's handwriting suggests that July 19th was intended. The birth registration clearly shows his birth date as being the 19th.
