ID # 7574, (1872-)
FatherRobert Buchan (1837-1911)
MotherMatilda Catharine Teeple (1834-1923)
BirthRobert Oliver Buchan was born on 14 October 1872 at Flamborough Township, Wentworth Co..
BaptismHe was baptized on 4 November 1872 at Flamborough Township.
NoteRobert Oliver Buchan's birth and baptism record is to be found in the Wesleyan Methodist Baptisms, Vol. 3, pages 724 and 725. It is recorded twice. Page 724 shows his name as Robert Olive, but page 725 shows his name as Robert Oliver. Page 724 shows the parents as Robert and M.C. Buchan; page 725 shows them as R. & M. Buchan. Page 724 shows them in residence in West Flamboro, but perhaps the result of over indulgence with ditto marks. (That, but young Robert's place of birth is shown as East Flamborough). Page 725 simply shows them as being in Flamborough. (Old Flamborough Township had been divided between East and West for at least a couple of decades by the time Robert Oliver Buchan was born.) The clergyman baptizing the child was William Morton.

This shows young Robert's date of birth as 14 October, 1872, and his baptism date as 4 November, 1872.

No birth or death registration is shown for young Robert and so we are left with the Wesleyan Methodist baptism pages to record his existence. (See bowergenealogy.ca for the page images.) The best that may be said is that he is evidently not living as of the 1881 census, for he certainly not shown with his family.

Wesleyan Methodist baptism notwithstanding, Robert Oliver Buchan's parents are buried in Grace Anglican Cemetery at Waterdown. So is Thomas Buchan, brother of Robert Oliver. Thomas didn't died until 1896 at age 21 and so his stone was not erected until some years after we must believe Robert Oliver to have died. The Hamilton branch of the Ontario Genealogical transcribed this cemetery and they state that the stone is partially illegible. It may be that young Robert is buried there.

Robert Oliver's brother Eli Buchan must have felt the loss for in 1890 he and his wife Annie had a son they named Robert Oliver Buchan.
