Note | Harry D. Moe is buried in Mountview Cemetery, Galt. His wife's birth is mentioned on the stone, but there is no death date for her. At age 51, she may well have remarried. The grave is listed in the transcription printout as 35E-61-1 Also at Mountview Cemetery is listed a burial card for a Laura Diefenbaker, previously Moe, 25 June 1986. There is no other connection for this Laura other than the Moe name, which isn't common. At the Toronto Reference Library, a Galt City Directory for 1944 was found. Harry D. Moe (Laura A.) is a salesman for Mammy's Bread. The Moes lived at 80 Elgin Street in the 1944 directory as well as the 1950 and 1954 directories. In 1956, Laura is at the same address as widow of Harry. In the 1962 directory, Laura is at 40 Elgin St. North. In 1968, the Galt City Directory shows an Owen Diefenbacher (Laura) at 40 Elgin St. North. This is the same for the 1975 directory. It would appear that Laura remarried. Harry's obituary in the Galt Reporter on September 29, 1954, says that he was a janitor at the Palace Theatre and that he was born in Aylmer. He lived in California and Pittsburg prior to coming to Galt. He served with the U.S. Army during the war of 1914-18. He was a member of Lincoln Avenue United Church. He had a son in Galt and a brother Charles Moe of Keswick. |
