| Note | Birth reg. 008428-76 Trafalgar Twp., Halton Co. Thomas Shaw Husband born 21st Decr., 1875. Parents John Husband, farmer, and Ellen Taylor. Physician Dr. Johnson. Informant John Husband, father, lot 25, Con. 3...illegible, but the word following the concession number may be 'South'. This was in Trafalgar Township. The registration was not filed until 20th January, 1876, for which reason the Archives of Ontario indexes Thomas' birth with other 1876 births, but, yes, the registration does state that Thomas was born on 21 December, 1875. This was not unusual for the time. A registration, be it birth or death, might not be filed until a few weeks after the fact. So far as the 1870s are concerned, we are fortunate to have a birth registration at all. Such things do not seem to have been at the top of peoples' minds in those days. The image of Thomas's death registration is not presently available. Both Familysearch and Ancestry have a copy of his registration in text only, and that of Ancestry is taken from that of Familysearch, which in turn refers to British Columbia Death Registrations, 1872-1986; 1992-1993 This shows that as of the date of his passing, 20 June, 1935, Thomas Shaw Husband was age 59. This may or may not be entirely correct, for his date of birth is reported in a rather conflicted manner. His date of birth is reported on the form as 21 December, 1874, but his year of birth (estimated) is shown as 1876. Since we have a reasonable birth registration filed with the registrar in Trafalgar Township of Halton County in Ontario, we may safely say that he was born on 21 December, 1875. The death registration goes on to say that his parents were John Husband and Helen Taylor. His spouse's name was Sarah Jane. |
