George McTavish
ID # 7262, (1850-1908)
| Father | Duncan McTavish (1794-1879) |
| Mother | Elizabeth Husband (1819-1897) |
| Baptism | George McTavish was baptized in 1850 at Nassagaweya, Halton, County, Canada West. |
| Marriage | He married Susan Hannah Green, daughter of John Green and Susan Harper. A marriage registration for George McTavish and Susan Hannah Green has not been found. They are together as man and wife as of the 1881 census in Huron Township, Bruce County. They have three sons, George 7, William 5, and Robert 4. They are on the same page as other family members and, given the mores of the day, it is difficult to imagine them as otherwise than married. It has been noticed that at least one clergyman in Huron Township was rather lackaday about returning his marriage records to the township clerk as he was required to do every six months. Some marriages were not filed until a year later, causing a comment to be entered on the form by the township clerk. It may well be that one or more of his marriage records were lost in the shuffle of papers on his desk. It is always possible that they were married out of province, in Michigan, say, but no record of this has been found. The records for several years have been searched sequentially without result. Given young George's age, 7, as of the 1881 census, it seems likely that George and Susan were married in 1872 or 1873. A newspaper notice may yet be found. |
| Death | He died on 31 January 1908 at Lavallee, District of Rainy River, Ontario. |
