Physician and informant Dr. Orten The above registration presents a small problem. According to the 1871 census, Charles and Janet had with them son Charles, age 2. This would indicate that he was born in 1869, and this is fairly represented by this birth registration. The 1871 census also shows a son William, age 1 month, born in December. The 1881 census shows Janet with her children (husband Andrew being deceased) and her youngest child is Charles, age 10. She does not have a son William with her. A record of birth or death for William has yet to be found or a burial. An 1871 enumerator's error might have been made, but, considering the direct statement that William is a month old and born the previous December makes this seem unlikely. For the present we show Charles and William as separate individuals. One other aspect of the above registration is that it does not actually state that it was filed in Puslinch. We may safely say that it was, however, for R. T. Johnston, the registrar, was registrar in later years. Also, Dr. Orten was a physician located in the village of Morriston, which is in Puslinch Township. |
