Note | Birth reg. 301003-46 apparently filed in Galt, Waterloo County Elfra Festina Bawtinheimer born April 6, 1875, at South Dumfries Parents Levi Bawtinheimer and Isabella Stewart, both residing South Dumfries at the time. Father was age 41 at time of birth and born South Dumfries; mother was 38 at time of birth and born Glen Morris. Father was a farmer. Only one child was born to the mother. Informant Hannah Scott of Galt. Based on declaration by cousin, family bible, entrance record. Filed at Galt 10th May 1946 and signed by Hannah Scott. Our information for Elfra is somewhat conflicting. The 1901 census at Galt shows the birth dates for the Bawtinheimer family and Elfra's is shown as April 6, 1875, which agrees with the above and that is how we show it here. Her Wesleyan Methodist baptism record, however, which appears on Volume 3, page 301, Dumfries, shows her date of birth as April 3, 1874, and her date of baptism as July 14, 1875. Anything is possible, but we'll go with the above birth registration. Her baptism shows her name as Elphra, but her gravestone at Glen Morris shows her as Elfra. The baptism appears to show her middle initial as P. The officiating clergyman at her baptism was D. E. Brownell. For the moment, it is not clear where he was located, however he does not appear on the Ainslie Street Methodist, Galt, roster of clergy. One source does locate him for a time at St. George. A time frame is not given, but he was probably located at St. George when he baptized Elfra. |
