The marriage record for Thomas Jack and Grace Page appears in a file entitled Seward County Nebraska, Marriage Records, Vol. 1, January 5, 1869 thru June 7, 1878, page 143.

The first portion of the page records the issuance of a marriage license which is dated 12 December, 1873. Thomas is identified as Thomas Jack, age 26, born Canada, parents James Jack and Jane Hood. He is said to reside in Saline County, Nebraska.

Grace Page is described as age 21, born New York, residence Seward County. Her parents are Oren Page and Nancy Bruce.

The second portion of the page records the marriage which takes place in Seward, Seward County, Nebraska, on 12th December, 1873, at Tuttle's Hotel. The four witnesses were Mr. H. Tuttle and wife and Mr. James McKillip and wife.

J. W. Shields, probate judge, issued the marriage license and also performed the marriage.

NoteThe intial list of children for James and Jean Hood was based on the 1861 census page which showed the family in Essae Township of Simcoe County. Thomas is not present in that list. The clue that a son was missing appeared in the marriage notice for brother Davidson Jack in the October 1873 issue of the Canadian Baptist. This showed Davidson as the 5th son of James Jack. This list however, as found in the 1861 census, only showed Davidson as the 4th son.

The solution to this problem was resolved when burial information for Davidson Jack was found on Find-a-Grave and to the contributor of this information I am indebted. This showed siblings, one of whom was Thomas.

Where was Thomas in 1861 if not in Essa?

Quickly enough, he was found in York Township of York County. He is shown there at an age that is ill written and might be 15 or 18, but he is shown with a William Jack, age 30. In a column marked 'Residence if out of limits', William is shown as being of Essa Twp. There are check marks beneath this entry for William, but as they appear against almost every name on the page they probably mean little. With William and Thomas is Mary Jack, age 23. Since William and Mary are not shown as 'married', she is probably their sister, though for the moment any comparison to the family as shown in Essa is unclear.

It's entirely reasonable to say that Thomas and William are brothers.

At the time of the 1870 U. S. census, Thomas is in Saline County, Nebraska, which his brother John Jack.

By 1880, Thomas is in Plymouth, California. He is shown there with his wife Grace and three children.
