A quibble: The Archives of Ontario microfilmed the above as being in a county marriage register with marriages dating from 1842 to 1858. Specialists in the topic show the Simcoe County marriage registers as beginning in 1858 and the previous one, namely this one, being a District Marriage Register, which is entirely reasonable.

A more primary issue is that the bride's surname is shown as Wood. An examination of the handwriting indicates that this is how the registering clerk interpreted her name. Going by The 1861 census, which shows their eldest son, William, as age 11, and which is repeated similarly in the 1871 census, as well as the transcription of the gravestone in Sixth Line Cemetery, Innisfil, which shows Elizabeth's maiden name, we may reasonably say that her correct name was Hood.

The William Jack who appears as a witness in the above marriage was surely Thomas' brother.

Elizabeth Hood died March 13, 1921 at lot 21, concession 5, Innisfil. Widow. Age 88 yrs., 7 mos., 12 dys. Born Scotland on Aug. 1, 1832. Retired housewife. At place of death 76 years (?), in Ontario and in Canada 76 years.
Father ... Hood, born Lanark, Scotland. Mother don't know, but born Scotland. Physician Dr. McCallum, address Churchill. Informant David Jacks of Lefroy, son. Burial March 15, 1921, at Central Church Cemetery (an earlier name for Sixth Line Cemetery.)

As per the marriage registration of Thomas Jack and Elizabeth Hood, they were married in Innisfil Township in 1850. The 1851 census has not survived for any of the Simcoe County townships. The children we list for Thomas and Elizabeth all appear in the census years in Innisfil in 1861, 1871, and 1881. Probably, their children were all born in Innisfil, though, for the moment, we can't be certain. A daughter Jane does appear in the 1871 census, age 16, which would make her birth year 1855, but she does not appear in the 1861 census nor in the 1881 census, and this is probably an enumerators error, and, for the moment, pending further evidence, is treated as such.

There is a conflict with the children's ages as given in the 1861 census and as they appear on a family gravestone in Sixth Line Cemetery. Since on one or two points the census information is the more reasonable, the years of birth have been left as calculated from the census information.
