| Note | Two sources have been found for the date of birth of George Dalby. The first is the 1901 census taken at Rat Portage in the Algoma District. This is ill written, but 23rd October, 1865, seems to be intended. A similar situation exists for George's death registration. The number 23 is poorly written, but, again, appears to be what is intended. FreeBMD places the birth of Charles William Otter Dalby in the last quarter of 1865 (October thru December) in the registration district of Kirkstall. This is probably not the town of birth, but is in the riding of West Yorkshire, and this much is likely correct. Rather further information is to be found on page 22 of the Tuesday, June 9, 1931, edition of the Toronto Daily Star. One of three brief stories datelined Orillia is an obituary for mining engineer, Charles William Otter Dalby, age 65. This tells that he died at his home the previous day and that the funeral would be the next day. It also tells that he was a native of Leeds, England, that he came to Canada as a child. Surviving him are his wife, a daughter Jean, a brother Sergeant George Dalby of the Toronto police, and a sister Mrs. J. McMullen. Death reg. 030482-31 Orillia, Simcoe Co. Charles William Otter Dalby died at 110 Borland Street, Orillia, on June 8, 1931. Married, born England on October 23, 1865, age 65. Occupation mining engineer.
