Humphrey, 321 Yonge St. (Undertaker) The Toronto branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society in cooperation with Familysearch has indexed images for the burials books for several of the Mt. Pleasant Group of Cemeteries. Pedro and Julia are buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The record for Pedro shows his death on June 13, 1911, and his burial as being on June 16. They are both in lot 1022. Pedro's place of birth is shown on his burial record as being Niagara-on-the-Lake. This was formerly Niagara Town and would have been known as such when Pedro was born in approximately 1835. It was still known as Niagara Town as of the 1851 census. Pedro was older than his marriage registration or his death information suggests. His age, 17, as shown in the 1851 census at Niagara Town (the census was actually begun in January of 1852) is closer to the truth. See Niagara branch of the OGS publication C-017, baptisms at St. Mark's Anglican Church in Niagara Town, 1792-1856. This lists baptisms for the year 1835. It states that Pedro was born on July 3 of 1835 and that his baptism was on the 2nd of August. There were three baptisms that day and the 2nd of August, 1835, was a Sunday. Sometimes baptisms were held in the homes of the parents, but we must believe that Pedro was baptized at St. Mark's church in a Sunday morning baptism. He is shown as Pedro Alma and his parents are shown as John Lees (Alma) and Emily. |
