He may have been a man of some means for the family is shown as living in a brick home when there were log and shanty dwellings aplenty. The 1870 U. S. census at Maquoketa, Iowa, shows Richard as a stock dealer, born Canada. They have two more children, both born in Iowa, Scott, age 6, and Lizzie, age 1. |
