Note | Richard German and his family appear in the 1861 census at St. Mary's. He is shown as a 'gentleman', and religion for he and his family is shown as 'none'. He may have been a man of some means for the family is shown as living in a brick home when there were log and shanty dwellings aplenty. The 1870 U. S. census at Maquoketa, Iowa, shows Richard as a stock dealer, born Canada. They have two more children, both born in Iowa, Scott, age 6, and Lizzie, age 1. |
